Faeries are not the innocent butterfly creatures you see in Disney movies. They are powerful spirits in old Irish culture that can manifest in any form they wish. In this tale, Eddie Lenihan tells of the giant black dog that comes toe-to-toe with a priest.

Good man, that dog is as big as a donkey,
Similar stories here in Scotland about black dogs representing evil spirits. One lives in a cave below Reekie Linn near Alyth.
Love Dingle, from close to there myself originally, and hard to beat despite exstensive travel
Fantastic, and I suppose a moral story if you like ,cloth = life..get as much as you can out of it because inevitably all that will be left is your story, but that too is of value so make it a good story
Brilliant!
Eddie Lenihan, The greatest storyteller of all time, a man who only deals in telling the truth, a dear friend of mine who works with Bob on his none ending world tour said that Bob listens to Eddie stores all of the time and he takes many ideas from those stores and uses them in some of his songs
I’m from Swords, when i was around 8 or 9, i was on our local green with another boy, a neighbour of mine, we were playing for a couple of minutes when we looked up and saw a grey metallic ufo flying a few hundred feet above us going from west to east, we screamed and ran home. Broad daylight, only one I’ve ever seen, i had very little notion of ufos in those days...I’ve experienced paranormal events in my own home also.
My left ear loved this
Then I ordered another demon to come before me, and there came into my presence a hound, having a very large dark shape, and it spoke with a loud voice, and said, "Hail, Lord, King Solomon!" And I Solomon was astounded. I said to it: Who art thou, O hound?" And it answered: "I do indeed seem to thee to be a hound, but before thou wast, O King Solomon, I was a MAN that wrought many unholy deeds on earth. I was surpassingly learned in letters, and was so mighty that I could hold the stars of heaven back
1. Testament of Solomon, son of David, who was king in Jerusalem, and mastered and controlled all spirits of the air, on the earth, and under the earth. By means of them also he wrought all the transcendent works of the Temple. Telling also of the authorities they wield against men, and by what angels these demons are brought to naught.
When the Irish descended on England asylums were increased tenfold.
Where did you read that Billy's weekly liar?

Wow. Still so good
I transcribed this telling and made it into a sketch/play/performance for a class. It's done incredible things for two different groups over the years. What else can I say? Thank you.
This man is an absolute TREASURE!! I could listen to his stories for ages! What an incredibly talented, brilliant storyteller 💚💚💚
Shoot the fucking dog.
My mum told me a story and swears it’s true she was in her 80s when she died she was walking the fields with her dad dada as she called him and she was running ahead of him and she swears she saw a unicorn coming from a catholic family she swore on the Bible that she saw it and her dad believed her at my mum’s funeral coming out of the church I noticed a white horse just staring in our direction and it was staring for ages just a Whitehorse it made me think of that story she told and it never ever changedx
A Grand tale! :-)
VERY INTERESTING. We have a black "panther" in SEVERAL parts of Australia but it's been filmed and all. Eaten foals and scared the life out of people's dogs. The Americans dropped off some small panthers in a rainforest when they left after WW2 and it's thought by some to be descendants of them. But where I grew up there was a HUGE dark brown dog. MASSIVE like a Shetland pony and had been seen once by one family and twice by another on a certain road bordered by acres of national park forest.
🙂👍
Are the faery folk really the tuatha de danann and the andé. They came to Ireland descended from the clouds in a thick blanket of smoke and fog. They gave rise to the Brehon laws and the complicated Irish Gaelic society. It was more than three thousand five hundred years ago the moon refused to give light nor the stars or the sun it's rays for three days and three nights. They were to become the "g_d's" of Ireland. They gave knowledge we don't know what is good and what is bad in our tradition. I like the idea of the Druids and Tree Magic and the Ogham tradition. There's a story of a giant named Treochair: "of the sprouts." He came and gave special knowledge and also planted many foreign plants from a different country(Some say the otherworld). In this story, we see the "outsider". He gave rise to foreigners and settlers in Ireland, much of the foliage we see in our woodlands today is really from imported foreign non-native saplings, which were brought from Scandanavia. Whereever this giant was from, he gave a footing for his people in Ireland. According to the Druidic descendants of the tuatha de danann and the andé, there are certain components of wisdom embedded into trees and with this wisdom come spirits. So we have a mixture of foreign wisdom and foreign spirits. We must not get to emotional. As this gives rise to the demonic. "Too caught up in the past" so to speak. I beleive in one G_d: Adonai. He made a covenant with Noah. I believe in this covenant. Peace.
Maybe he/she just wanted a patt
So no one in the comments wonders how the priest beat the dog. I want to hear that part!!!
We have stories of the the black dog ( black shuck) in coastal essex. A friend of my family swears a giant black dog followed him as walked past some old barns on back road near where we live. Also historically there have been other sightings in the same area.
You recorded left side audio only.
THIS MAN SHOULD BE A NATIONAL TREASURE
I just bought his book "Meeting The Other Crowd" and I highly recommend it.
how many stories are in it?
@@crankcuffin1948 quite a few
Wonderful guy! He has CD's out.
The Best Storyteller ever
excellent vid. 10/10.
Excellent story. It is said that Black Dogs often used to manifest in or very close to streams. They seem to need or use water to generate their form. Ethel Rudkin has plenty of Black Dog stories from Lincolnshire and published her research in the 1930s and 1940s. It's a fascinating subject.
Very interesting, thank you. I know Britain has plenty black or spirit dog sightings but hadn't heard of Ethel Rudkin. My mother saw one and he/she/it appeared by a stream and seemed to beside her as she cycled. This was back in the 1949s in County Mayo.

So a Fool has No Luck ! Never miss a genuine operjunity. you might never get a second chance. But the Lucky always get a second chance.
Its been implied that the fairies find a fault in someone and reflect it back to them. Like if they see a problem with somebody they will appear as a person with the same problem to that person with the problem. And then embarass or create problems for that person by behaving as that person. Its this thing, showing a mirror to someone. But, they often exagerate these faults in people, and make it out to be as bad as if someone were a murderer. They have a sparky vibe that radiates off them, as you would think, given who they are. Thats what gives people a turn, thats what people notice its the vibes you receive from people. They say its almost telepathic, that you know they are not human.
moral of the story marry her while you can or else your fucked
Awesome story teller. I love this guy and I'm from Ukraine.
I just found out about Eddie by watching Simon Reeves Ireland Journey part 1. My mum from County Mayo was a devout Catholic and believer in the wee people.
You Muggles will never learn our secrets.
does anyone know were can find more
Crap
I love stories like this. The repetition is gorgeous.
So, would a Black Dog be the same thing as a Cu Sith? :o
I love this story, I believe it happened as it is told. I hope I can tell a story like this as good as he one day. what a treasure Eddie is. (no homo)
This guy is a national treasure, who else is collecting this stuff? We need people like him to keep track of this information, whether you call it history, mythology or whatever, we would be foolish to allow ourselves to lose it.
see my beard aint it weard dont be skeard just a beard

Fairy Folk, How glad I am to find you. I got lucky recently and got to spend time in wounderful Ireland, and I loved it. Years ago I met Small folk in a house in Wales. And sort them ever since. Apparently they are in England but they are periscuted to the point of having no power. So imagine how delighted I was to meet them in Ireland. where they don't need to hide, simply because the land still has its identity, so they still have their home. So glad to meet you
corryn webb the eu is attempting to banish the spirit of the land... Good luck to them. Some of the Irish are sleeping and lapping it up. It takes the heart of the immigrant and their children to maintain and restore, the outside looking in sees it all.
@@pinkitypink6246nonsense the EU is helping to maintain our country side, little do you understand of it.
